Questions families ask
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn’t here, call us. We’re glad to talk it through.

Care
Do you care for people with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia?
Yes. Caring for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias is our focus. The State of California licenses our home as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly with the client type “RCFE / Dementia,” for adults 60 and over. Every person is different, so the best next step is a conversation about your loved one. Call 805-280-9158 or book a tour.
If my dad needs hospice care, can he stay here?
Often, yes. The state has approved a hospice waiver for up to four of our residents. In California, that waiver lets a care home keep a resident who is terminally ill, or welcome someone who already receives hospice, with care from a licensed, Medicare-certified hospice agency working alongside our team. The resident, or the person who makes decisions for them, chooses the hospice. The hospice then writes a care plan that we agree on together. Medicare’s hospice benefit can usually cover hospice care where a person lives, but not room and board. Please call us to talk about your dad’s situation.
My mom uses a wheelchair. Can she live here?
Yes, the home is set up for that. It’s single-story and wheelchair accessible. The state has also given us a fire clearance for six non-ambulatory residents. In California, “non-ambulatory” means someone who can’t leave a building without help in an emergency, including people who rely on a wheelchair or walker. The clearance covers all six residents. We’ll talk through your mom’s needs when you call.
Is someone there at night?
Yes. Care and monitoring continue around the clock, every day, from bedtime through the night to first thing in the morning. On your tour, ask us who is on duty overnight and how night checks work. We’ll walk you through a typical night.
The home
Why only six residents?
Because that’s what our state license allows, and we think it’s a strength. Six residents means one household: one front door, one living room, one kitchen where meals are made, and one garden. In a home this size, there are fewer new faces to get used to, and it’s easier for caregivers to get to know each person.
Can residents spend time in the garden?
Yes. The garden is a peaceful place to relax and watch the birds. The backyard has a patio, paved walkways, trees, planted garden beds and sitting areas, and there’s another sitting area out front by the entrance. Families are welcome to sit outside together on a visit.
Where are you, and how close are the hospitals?
We’re at 4866 Frances Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93111, in the Eastern Goleta Valley between Goleta and downtown Santa Barbara. By car it’s about 5 minutes to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital and about 11 minutes to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Santa Barbara Airport is about 8 minutes away, which helps when family flies in. These are approximate weekday drive times from Google Maps. Get directions
Cost and openings
How much does it cost?
Please call us for current rates and availability: 805-280-9158. We’ll explain what’s included and answer every question about cost, plainly. It may also help to know that Medicare doesn’t pay for long-term care, which includes most of the day-to-day help a care home gives.
Do you have an opening right now?
With only six residents, openings are limited and change from time to time. Please call 805-280-9158 to check. We’ll tell you honestly where things stand.
Visiting
Can we visit before we decide?
Please do. Come see the home, sit in the garden, and ask every question on your list. You can request a tour online in three short steps, or call 805-280-9158. If you’re the one thinking about moving in, you’re very welcome to come, too.
How can I check your license and inspection reports?
Our license is public. Search for facility number 425850264 on the California Department of Social Services’ Care Facility Search, or use our Verify our license link. You’ll see our license status and our inspection reports, including the results of every visit. We’re happy to talk through anything you read there.
